I am currently the Chairperson for the Legislative Committee at the Medina County Board of REALTORS®. In 2021 while serving on the committee, Rick Stallard, The Most Interesting Man in Real Estate, asked if I'd like to be the co-chair... which lead me to be the chairperson for 2023. Two more months as the chair and I have to say, I'm going to miss it!

It's an incredibly rewarding and enlightening role that has allowed me to make a positive impact on our local real estate industry and advocate for important issues that affect us all.

Our committee discusses legislation being considered in and around Medina County, the Ohio House and Senate. We encourage REALTORS® to take an active role in the political process at the state and local levels through numerous political participation programs designed to promote or oppose candidates or issues.

We interview candidates running opposed to determine if we will support and/or endorse them during their campaign. We ask important questions to make sure we want to put our name behind them. Are they aware of issues that impact homeowners? Why are they running? What do they know about the position they're running for? Are they aware of current issues?

As REALTORS®, we wear many hats in our profession. Not only are we responsible for helping our clients buy or sell homes, but we also play a crucial role in advocating for policies and regulations that shape our industry. This advocacy ensures that our communities continue to thrive and that homeownership remains accessible to everyone.

Serving as the Legislative Committee Chairperson for the Medina County Board of REALTORS® has been a unique opportunity to lead and collaborate with fellow REALTORS® who share a passion for our industry and the communities we serve. Here are some of the key aspects of my role:

  • **Policy Advocacy**: The heart of our committee's work is advocating for policies that promote homeownership, property rights, and a healthy real estate market. We actively engage with local, state, and federal policymakers to provide insights on issues that matter most to our members and the public.
  • **Community Outreach**: Beyond advocating for real estate-related policies, we strive to engage with our local community. We host informational events, participate in community service initiatives, and work to build strong relationships with residents to better understand their needs.
  • **Education and Awareness**: We believe that knowledge is power. We provide educational resources to our members and the public on topics such as real estate regulations, market trends, and property rights. Informed citizens make for a stronger real estate market.
  • **Collaboration**: Our committee collaborates with other local organizations, chambers of commerce, Medina County Economic Development Corporation and community leaders to foster a supportive environment for homeownership and real estate investment.

Serving as the Legislative Committee Chairperson has given me a deeper appreciation for the importance of advocacy in our industry. Here are some of the rewards and impacts I've experienced:

1. **Influence**: Through our advocacy efforts, we've been able to influence local policies and regulations in ways that benefit both REALTORS® and the community at large. Whether it's advocating for property tax relief or supporting housing affordability initiatives, our voice matters.

2. **Community Engagement**: Engaging with our community on a deeper level has allowed us to better understand their concerns and needs. It's a two-way street, and this dialogue is crucial for a thriving real estate market.

3. **Professional Growth**: Serving in this role has provided opportunities for personal and professional growth. It's allowed me to enhance my leadership skills, expand my network, and stay at the forefront of industry developments.
